Peer leadership program
This programme comprises 4 modules that support young people to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes they need to become leaders in tackling poor mental health among their peers.
Aim
The SafeSpace4Youth Peer-Leadership Programme aims to enhance opportunities for young people facing mental health challenges by engaging them in social action projects and providing access to peer support networks, based on mutual understanding and equality. This programme aims to engage young people in their communities, empowering them to assume leadership roles. These leaders will advocate for positive mental health and facilitate support networks for their peers, guiding them toward fulfilling life paths through collaborative social action projects.
Modules
Module 1
Understanding Youth Mental Health
Explore how you can become a Peer Youth Leaderwith a comprehensive understanding of youth mental health. Through a series of workshops and discussions, delve into various issues affecting well-being, including Fear of Missing Out (FOMO), the impact of social media on mental health, social anxiety, self-image, validation, self-worth, confidence, purpose, and resilience.
Module 2
Facilitating Peer Workshops
Learn how to effectively lead workshops for your peers, manage conflicts that may arise during sessions, lead collective projects, and make appropriate referrals to service providers when necessary. Improve your skills in creating engaging and supportive environments for your peers to learn and grow.
Module 3
Social Action and Youth
Explore opportunities for social engagement and personal development. Through interactive activities and discussions, identify available choices for your peers, discover avenues for engagement, and map out pathways to success.
Module 4
SafeSpace Promotion
Promote positive mental health and lead social action projects (SAPs) within your community. Learn how to create and manage local campaigns aimed at raising awareness of mental health issues and promoting safe spaces for discussion and support. Explore tools, examples, and checklists for SAPs, as well as guidance on identifying positive role models within your community to inspire and offer hope to your peers.
